Deccan Chargers Vs Kings XI Punjab - Match 36 - De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberly - Bulletin

A half century from Andrew Symonds could not prevent the Deccan Chargers from losing against the Kings XI Punjab. In a thrilling chase that went on till the penultimate ball of the innings, Punjab batsmen Brett Lee and Pyuish Chawla kept their cool and helped them seal the game by 3 wickets.

Chasing 169 for victory, Punjab made a steady start. However they were left reeling at the 10 over break, having lost Yuvraj Singh off the last ball. When Play resumed Jayawardene took charge, kept scoring at a good rate and took the pressure off Punjab. But just when they seemed to have got the match in control, Jayawardene was run out for 43. With 16 needed from 9 deliveries, the pressure was mounting on Punjab, but Brett Lee responded with a much needed six. That one shot put Punjab back in command. Lee and Chawla, then guided them home with one ball to spare. Rohit Sharma returned with figures of 12/2, picking up both the openers.

Earlier in the day, some big hitting from Andrew Symonds helped Deccan post a competitive total of 168/5. At once stage they were strugging at 73/4 and Punjab seemed to be in total control. Symonds(60) reached his half century of 28 balls and was well supported by Rao(32). The pair put on 95 runs before Rao was run out of the last ball of the innings.
