Mumbai Indias vs Kolkatta Knight Riders - Match 17 - St George's Park, Port Elizabeth - Bulletin
Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya showed on Tuesday as to why they are known to be the most destructive and world class batsman on Earth. They added 127 runs for the first wicket and batted Kolkatta out of the game at St George's park in Port Elizabeth. Having won the toss Mumbai Indian decided to bat first and Sachin and Jayasuriya were in ominous form right from the word go. Sachin was in charge of the initial assault and scored 52 runs of just 32 balls. Jayasuriya on the other end started getting considerable strike only by the 4th over and 39 year old scored 68 of 45 balls thanks to his clean hitting. If you thought that T 20 is the format more suited for youngsters, then these two 35+ year old gentlemen proved otherwise. Their batting showed that age is nothing when compared with class. Powered by opening partnership Mumbai was looking good to cross over the 200 mark, but Lakshmi Shukla came up with a brilliant spell of 3/25 to peg back the Mumbai innings. The great momentum given by the opening pair could not be sustained and Mumbai ended up with 187 runs on the board.
If you want to summarize the run chase of Kolkatta Knight Riders, then "DISASTROUS" would be the apt word. Except for Hodge and Ganguly none of the Kolkatta batsmen had patience enough to get settled and then get going. Poor shot selection combined with some tight bowling from Mumbai resulted in Kolkatta being bowled out for 95. At the moment nothing seems to be going right for the Kolkatta boys. Is it because of the team unity? Is it because of too much distractions? Whatever the reasons maybe, its either perform or perish for TEAM KOLKATTA. You may have loads of sponsors and a star following, but without on-field performances you end up ZERO. Hope Kolkatta Knight Riders and Shahrukh Khan remember this!
