Mumbai Indians Vs Kolkatta Knight Riders - Match 23 - Buffalo Park, East London - Bulletin

JP Duminy's power hitting and Zaheer Khan's accurate bowling helped Mumbai clinch a 9run victory over the Kolkatta Knight Riders. Kolkatta have lost five games out of their seven and are in bad shape at the bottom of the points table. Mumbai Indians, after winning the toss, did not get the start they would have expected losing the dangerous Jayasuriya early Sachin Tendulkar showed some solidity at the top of the innings scoring 34 of 30 balls. With Sachin and Nayar getting out in a span of twenty runs and wickets tumbling at other end, it was upto South African star JP Duminy whose 52 of 37 balls, helped Mumbai reach a defendable target. Some inaccurate bowling from the Kolkatta bowlers conceding six wides and no ball helped Mumbai reach the final score of 148.

Chasing 149 for victory, Kolkatta yet again started off losing both their openers with just 9 runs on board. Both Ganguly(0) and Gayle(7) had their stumps rattled by Zaheer. A partnership of 91 runs between B Hodge(73) and Van Wyk(32). Apart from Hodge and Van Wyk no other batsman showed the intent of staying at the crease and were out with single digit scores. The run out of Hodge at the end of 19th over sealed all hopes of a Kolkatta win and they fell short by 9 runs. With this defeat, Kolkatta must win all their matches or hope for a miracle in order to reach the semis.

Chennai Super Kings Vs Rajasthan Royals - Match 22 - SuperSport Park,
Centurion - Bulletin

Suresh Raina played one of the best innings of this years IPL to give Chennai their second win of the season. His 98 of just 55 balls propelled Chennai to a a formidable 164-5. In reply Rajasthan never looked in the hunt loosing opener their Graham Smith for just 2.

Raina was also a star in the field getting the wicket of Quiney(28) and taking two catches. Rajasthan only managed 126-9 in their 20 overs with Balaji picking up 4 wickets. Yusuf Pathan was once again the bright light for scoring 20 and taking 2 wickets in Rajasthan's 38 run loss.

This win has brought Chennai's campaign back on track, having lost three matches and one washed out. Rajasthan on the other hand have a lot to ponder about. Their batting has not been like we know from last year, their bowling, far from impressive.

Earlier in the day Chennai made a disastrous start with Pathan accounting for Hayden and Patel for 1 and 3 respectively. But this did not deter Raina who reached his half century of just 27 balls. He found valuable support from Badrinath (29) and Dhoni (22) along the way. Raina's innings included 5 sixes and 10 fours and ended when he was caught of the bowling of Munaf Patel.

If this was not enough drama, Raina had just celebrated his first IPL hundred and also became the first Indian to do so. But those celebrations were short lived as it was later found out that he had actually scored only 98. This was a disastrous mistake by the scorers who gave Raina two extra runs. Had Raina know this would he have played a different shot to the one he got out? Maybe, but as they say cricket is a team game and personal feats come second to the teams cause.

A brilliant partnership between Tilkaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Karthik helped Delhi win against the so far undefeated Deccan Chargers. A blazing 48 from 28 balls from Dwayne Smith helped Deccan reach a reasonable score of 148. Dirk Nannes took two wickets, that of openers, and finsihed a brilliant spell with the figures of 2/16.

Kings XI Punjab Vs Mumbai Indians - Match 20 - Kingsmead, Durban - Bulletin

Kings XI Punjab beat Mumbai Indians by 3 runs in a low scoring, nail biting thriller. Deciding to bat first on a slow batting track Kings XI batsmen never looked dangerous to set a big target. They lost their openers early and except for Sangakara who scored a gritty unbeaten 45 of 44 balls none of the Kings XI batsmen looked to occupy the crease. Some accurate bowling by Mumbai Indians, especially Malinga who returned with the figures of 2/12 and Zaheer Khan made sure that Kings XI never got beyond the six run per over mark. Kings XI ended up with 119 at the end of their 20 overs.

Chasing a low target of 120 and boasting of some of the biggest names in their batting line up, Mumbai chase started off catastrophically loosing both their star openers Sachin and Jayasuriya for just 4 runs on the board. With the dew factor negated by the winds, Kings XI bowlers were on a roll taking wickets at regular intervals. With the fall of Duminy's wicket in the final over, in which they needed 12 runs for victory, Mumbai's hopes were shattered. Kudos to the intelligent bowling changes made by Yuvaraj and an excellent spell of fast bowling from Yusuf Abdulla who is making heads turn in this IPL season.

Banglore Royal Challengers Vs Kolkatta Knight Riders - Match 19 - Kingsmead, Durban - Bulletin

A sensational last over victory handed Banglore a much needed victory ending their four match loosing streak. Needing just 140 for victory Banglore started off their chase solidly with a 69 run first wicket partnership. Incidentally this was their first 50+ first wicket partnership for the tournament. Goswami who had replaced Uthappa at the top order played sensibly scoring 43 off 46 balls. But the Kolkatta bowling led by Hodge and Ishant made quick inroads into the Banglore batting line up. Banglore needed 10 runs of the final over with the scoreboard reading 129/5. The experienced Boucher, held his nerve and guided Banglore home. Gayle gave 1,4,2,2,4 in the crucial final over.

Earlier in the day Kolkatta started off disastrously with McCullum falling yet again for a first ball duck. McCullums form, rather loss of it is a big worry for Kolkatta and this can prove to be a decisive factor in the games to come. C Gayle once again proved his worth with solid 40 off 37 balls, but the unexpected star for Kolkatta came in the form of M Van Myk who remained unbeaten for a solid 43 of 35 balls. L Shukla's 21 of 15 balls helped add respectably to the Kolkatta score and they ended up scoring 139 runs at the end of their 20 over quota.

Rajasthan Royals Vs Delhi Daredevils - Match 18 - SuperSport Park,Centurion - Bulletin

Yusuf Pathan and Greame Smith fetched Rajasthan a brilliant victory from a stage where winning seemed very unlikely. Having to chase a small total of 144, Rajasthan never really looked in hunt loosing early wickets. At the end of 11th over the scoreboard read 64/5, with Smith holding the innings and running out of partners. Amit Mishra bowled brilliantly for Delhi and Delhi were well on their way to emulate Deccan's four on four. Rajasthan it seems should never loose hope as long as Yusuf Pathan is on the crease. The hard hitting right hander made a mockery of the Delhi bowling attack scoring an unbeaten 62 off just 30 balls, which included three 4's and six massive sixers. With Smith showing his solidity in the other end, Rajasthan romped home in just 18.3 overs with a Pathan boundary.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Daredevils's openers once again failed to get going and AB deVillers proved to be a valuable asset scoring another half century to help Delhi reach a score of 143. Vettori showed some skill with the bat and his partnership of 56 runs with deVillers proved vital and was the only partnership worth mentioning for Delhi.Mithun Manhas's late blast of 23 provided a much needed boost to the Delhi total in the final overs. Mascarenhas, Munaf Patel and Shane Warne picked two wickets each for Rajasthan, with Munaf's 2/14 being the best figures.

Mumbai Indias vs Kolkatta Knight Riders - Match 17 - St George's Park, Port Elizabeth - Bulletin

Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya showed on Tuesday as to why they are known to be the most destructive and world class batsman on Earth. They added 127 runs for the first wicket and batted Kolkatta out of the game at St George's park in Port Elizabeth. Having won the toss Mumbai Indian decided to bat first and Sachin and Jayasuriya were in ominous form right from the word go. Sachin was in charge of the initial assault and scored 52 runs of just 32 balls. Jayasuriya on the other end started getting considerable strike only by the 4th over and 39 year old scored 68 of 45 balls thanks to his clean hitting. If you thought that T 20 is the format more suited for youngsters, then these two 35+ year old gentlemen proved otherwise. Their batting showed that age is nothing when compared with class. Powered by opening partnership Mumbai was looking good to cross over the 200 mark, but Lakshmi Shukla came up with a brilliant spell of 3/25 to peg back the Mumbai innings. The great momentum given by the opening pair could not be sustained and Mumbai ended up with 187 runs on the board.

If you want to summarize the run chase of Kolkatta Knight Riders, then "DISASTROUS" would be the apt word. Except for Hodge and Ganguly none of the Kolkatta batsmen had patience enough to get settled and then get going. Poor shot selection combined with some tight bowling from Mumbai resulted in Kolkatta being bowled out for 95. At the moment nothing seems to be going right for the Kolkatta boys. Is it because of the team unity? Is it because of too much distractions? Whatever the reasons maybe, its either perform or perish for TEAM KOLKATTA. You may have loads of sponsors and a star following, but without on-field performances you end up ZERO. Hope Kolkatta Knight Riders and Shahrukh Khan remember this!
